The Shetland Way - Promote Shetland

The Shetland Way - Promote Shetland

The Brief:

Create a film that showcased a new long-distance hiking trail, right at the top of the UK. We’ve had a long and successful working relationship with Promote Shetland, but this was our toughest project yet. Besides landscapes, we needed to meet fascinating Shetland folk that called the place home.

The Challenge:

Wild and windswept, we identified two fascinating interviewees to meet, to give the film a personal and TV-doc feel. Catherine Munro has penned a bestselling memoir about Shetland ponies, while Brydon Thomasson is one of the UK’s leading ecologists and tour guides. Besides getting the best out of our interviewees, it was imperative to capture the essence of Britain’s northernmost archipelago with a style of adventure travel videography that felt energetic.

The Results:

Simon achieved a UK exclusive on this hiking trail; an idea so new the crew were practically forging the trail. In collaboration between Promote Shetland and The Times, the final film was crowned “UK Journey of the Year” at the BGTW 2024 Awards, and shortlisted in the Press Gazette Future of Media Awards. On the Times Travel YouTube channel is became part of a six-part video series: Simon Parker’s Global Adventures.
